2020 Season - Cancelled

Dear Norski Football Families,

The Deforest Area Youth Football League (DAYFL) Board of Directors have been discussing the 2020 season for the past few months to determine the best plan of action for the players and families in our program. The number one priority of the DAYFL Board has been and will always be the health and safety of our players and community. To strictly follow the current COVID-19 guidelines and orders in a football setting, would be extremely challenging.  The Board has decided it is in the best interest of our players, families and the community to cancel the 2020 season.

The DAYFL Board thoroughly discussed and reviewed the information provided by our governing bodies to come to this decision. The Dane County Area Youth Football League (DCAYFL) Board of Directors, Dane County Public Health Department, the CDC, WIAA and USA Football all provided information and guidelines to help with this decision.

Some of the guidelines included requiring kids to wear masks while playing football, training at a 6’ distance, and keeping kids in small groups of 10. These guidelines, along with the numerous other stipulations would be difficult to follow and enforce in a football setting.  Placing additional responsibilities of enforcement on coaches and players is just too much to ask.  DAYFL’s goal is to provide a safe and encouraging environment for a fun youth experience.  The current environment we would be required to operate under would not align well with this goal.  We are a 100% volunteer based organization and we struggled with the idea of asking volunteers to enforce social distancing at games and practices.  And we are not able to guarantee we could strictly meet all sideline, practice and game time requirements as an all-volunteer organization.

Ultimately, as a Board, we took all the information we had available and made the best decision we could with priority on the health and safety of our players and community.  Obviously, we all wanted football to be played this fall.  If for some reason the stars align and guidelines and orders are changed, we would possibly entertain a September/October in-house program.

On behalf of the entire Board we regret that it has come to this. Again, this decision was not made easily and it was the most difficult decision we have had to make regarding our league. Ultimately, we feel it is the right decision based on current information available.

Sincerely,

The Deforest Area Youth Football League (DAYFL) Board of Directors
